"SLÖJD WOODWORK & METALWORK" with Per and Monica form Sweden

MONİCA and PER WİLHELMSSON
In April 2010 WOODWORK and SLÖJD seminar was held at Ütopya. Students worked with felt, metal work and woodwork with hammer and nail for two days.

We were given a special saw, and other woodwork materials, as a present which can be used safely by children.

Abbreviated information regarding Swedish handwork SLÖJD!
In Sweden the root of handwork is based on Sweden’s traditional agricultural culture. Handwork consists of knowledge, ability, material and technique.

”Slöjd” (handwork) comes from ”Slögher”, which in old Swedish means craftsman, skilful, experienced, artistic, intelligent.
In Sweden handwork has been put into practice at schools since 1878 for boys and girls. In 1962 it changed its name to ”Woven Handwork” , ”Wood and Metal Handwork” .Since 1994 it has been called ”Slöjd” (handwork)

Students between the ages of 9 to15 take handwork practice at schools.

Between 9 to 12 take wood and woven handwork, after that it is optional according to the student’s interest and abilities.

Many thanks to Monica and Per, who gave this chance to Ütopya students at the age of 7.
